I've been trying to teach my dog to fetch. I wanted to use a tennis ball, but he never seemed interested. Then I tried a frisbee. Still, he couldn't care less. Then I got him to fetch a raw hide chew toy. It's too light to throw very far, but at least he brought it back to me. I've been using the chew toy daily to try to reinforce the retrieving behavior. But he still wouldn't fetch anything else. So last night, all of a sudden, he finally got it. He started retrieving a frisbee. He was having a ball. I figured it was a fluke, so I tried to stay calm. I waited several hours, then on our last trip outside before bed, I tried the frisbee again. He went nuts as soon as he saw it and fetched it like a pro. Very cool. I think I actually taught the dog something new. I had already taught him to sit, but that was so easy, I figured he had already learned it somewhere else. But I know the frisbee thing was all me. It's really cool. I've never had any luck teaching a dog anything before. I rule!
